Sortmere

Drop your files in the pond. Your rules find them a home.

Sortmere is a calm Mac app that organizes files using rules you set. You see a preview before anything moves.

Sortmere's Home view in dark mode: a sidebar listing Home, File Review, Merge Folders, Organize Files, Rename Suggestions, Duplicates, Statistics, Automation and Settings; a large blue pond drop zone reading "Drop files into the pond"; and cards for Review Files, Merge Matching Folders, Organize Files, Improve Names, Find Duplicates, View Statistics and Automation.

Features

Tidy files, without the babysitting

The pond

Drag files onto the pond. Each one turns into a droplet and sends out ripples as Sortmere takes it in.

Rules you can preview

Start from a ready-made workflow, like Work & Clients, Photography or Household & Taxes, or create your own rule. Rules can match words in file names, file extensions and size ranges.

Every proposed move still waits for your review and confirmation.

Sortmere's Workflows & Rules view in dark mode, with Import Setup, Export Setup and Create Rule buttons, and workflow cards for Work & Clients, Personal Projects, Learning & Reference, Photography, Professional Development, Household & Taxes and Creator & AI, each with an Activate button.

Daily runs, with a health check

Turn on the cleanup rules you want and they run once a day at the time you set. Preview any rule first. Status lines show whether rules are enabled and when they last ran.

Prefer a nudge? An optional Monthly File Review reminder is built in.

Sortmere's Automation view in dark mode. Automatic Cleanup Rules shows an "Old disk images" rule for .dmg files in Downloads older than 30 days, with Preview, Edit and an Enabled switch, plus status lines saying no automatic rules are enabled and they have not run yet. Below is a Monthly File Review reminder set for the first day of every month at 10:00 AM.

  • Repairs itself

If you move the app, Sortmere fixes its background helper. A run lock makes sure only one copy works at a time.

  • Remembers your permissions

Folder access you grant carries over from one launch to the next, so you won't get asked again.

  • Gentle onboarding

A short guided setup walks you through getting started.

  • Respects your settings

Sortmere follows Reduce Motion and your other macOS accessibility settings.
